Significant Stuff

October 27, 2010

For my birthday, I got a poem. I’m going to share it with you because there is nothing in the world more significant than the lives we make.  Thank you, Ron Scot Fry.  You are….  everything to me.

For Susan on her 48th Birthday
by Ron Fry

The paint on the table,
The table in the back yard,
Is still flaking, almost bare in places.

The dog still jumps
Just as high as he ever has
But the naps between jumps are longer.

Will we see snow
On the old trim board
That sticks out from under the eaves
For want of a nail and a tall ladder?

Will the porch still want a railing
When we are old enough
To need a railing on the porch?
I don’t know.

But there will be
Music and Art
Love and Laughter
Work and Endeavor.

The spirits will listen
The children will learn
The poet will play in the park.

As as sure as the
Cat seeks a lap
Behind the paper and
The coffee is hot and sweet

We will have adventures
You and I;
Let the paint peel
As it may.

Susan Scot Fry

Update… This was one of the most amazing birthdays ever.  So full of love and laughter and adventures together.  All near home and with lots of work-stuff mixed in.

  1. I just got a little misty.
Happiest of birthdays to you. May you have twice as many more with just the right amount of adventure in every day.
